Pension 1898:
FROM SOLDIER'S STATEMENTS:
* Ransom T. James Sr. of Pierce Co., was born 11 March
1832 and has continually since resided in Georgia
* He enlisted 20 Sep 1862 into Co. D of 7th Regt Ga Cavalry,
Youngs Brigade; was discharged 4 July 1865 in Virginia
on the 19 September 1964
* He was wounded by being run over by the horses of Youngs
Cavalry at Sandy Run, Va, breaking left shoulder and crass
bone of groins, and causing rupture; wounds have disabled
him completely
FROM AFFIDAVIT FOR THREE WITNESSES:
* J.L. Thomas, James M. Davis, and David Cason
* Known that Ransom T. James has resided in Ga since 11 Mar
1832, and that he served Co. d 7th Regt Cavalry, Youngs
Brigade
* "I, J.L. Thomas, served in the Regiment with Ransom T.
James and know that he was wounded at Sandy Run Va. on
Sept 1864, by bing run over by the horses of the Youngs
Cavalry breaking his left shoulder and also the crass bone
of his groins, which cuased rupture entirely disabling him
from doing manuel labor of any kind, ever since."
* "I, James M. Davis, served in same Regiment with Ransom
T. James and know of my own knowledge that was wounded
by the horses of the Youngs Cavalry breaking his left
shoulder and crass bone of his groins which caused rupture,
said wounds entirely disabling him from doing manuel labor
of any kind since."
* "I, David Cason, served in same Company and Regiment with
Ransom T. James was with him when he was wounded at Sandy
Run, Va. in Sept 1864 by being run over by the horses of
the Youngs Cavalry breaking his left shoulder and crass
bone of groins, said wounds disabled to the extent that he
has be unable to do manuel labor since."
* Ransom T. James was honorably discharged 4 July 1865
FROM PHYSICIANS' AFFIDAVIT:
* W.P Williams and A.L.R. Avant examined Ransom T. James
* "We find that the left clavicle has been broken at
Tuberosity for Conoid Ligament and that the bone was never
placed in aposition the long part being pressed in. Also
the Pubic bone on left side has been broken and never
properly united. He is therefore unable to use leg or arm
to any advantage. He is totally disabled to perform any
labor."
* These injuries do not arise from hereditary or continital causes

FROM WIDOW'S STATEMENTS:
* Name: Rebecca James, reside in Pierce Co., Ga.,
Blackshear, Ga.
* Has resided in Ga fifty-four years, since August 14 1847;
was born August 14 1835 at Beauford Dist. S.C.
* Husband was Ransom T. James, born Mch 11 1832 in Pierce
County Ga. Married Dec 13 1849 in Pierce County Ga.
* Ransom T. James enlisted in September 1862 at Waynesville
Ga in Co D 7th Regt of Ga Volunteers; served three years;
his Co & Regt surrendered in Virginia and he was dis-
charged there
* He had been wounded and was in the hospital at time of
surrender; was carried there on account of being wounded.
* Ransom T. James died June 19th 1899 at his home near
Blackshear Ga, Pierce Co.
* Application based on age, infirmity and poverty; Has
been an invalid for the past twenty five years and has
been confined to bed six years; has had no occupation and
has not done any work in 25 years; no income; no property
* No disposition of any property has been made; In Pierce
County, no taxes returned; supported by children
* Support cost [for Rebecca] for each year 1899-1900, about
$150, she contributed nothing and had no employment
* Resides with son and he has a family to support
* No previous application for pensions
FROM WITNESS'S STATEMENTS:
* David Cason, resides at Walkerville, Ga in Pierce Co.
* Has known Rebecca James about forty-five years; she resides
near Blackshear, Ga, resided in Ga ever since known by him
* Was acquainted with her husband and he resided in Pierce
Co in 1861, near Blackshear; Ransom was married to Rebecca
Dowling.. unsure of date.
* Has known Ransom about 50 years; Ransom was born in Pierce Co.
* Ransom enlisted on the 20th day of Sept 1862 at Waynesville
Ga in Co. D 7th Regiment; Cason a member of the same Co.
and Regt.; Ransom served about three years; surrendered
and discharged at Lynchburg, Va. in April 1865 at close
of war; Cason was there at surrender; Ransom was wounded at
the time; he was wounded at Sand Run, Va., was carried from
there to hospital by authority of the officers of the
regiment... "I was there and served with him."
* Ransom died in Pierce Co. Ga, June 19 1899, near Blackshear, Ga,
where he resided at least 50 years.
* Knew them to live together as husband and wife; she has not
remarried
* Rebecca is an invalid, unable to walk, and has been confined
in the house a great many years; not able to support herself;
supported by her children.
FROM PHYSICIANS' AFFIDAVITS:
*W.P. Williams and A.M. Brown
* Sarah Rebecca James is a perfect invalid and greatly emaciated.
She is phically incapable of doing any kind of labor and is
a burden to her family.
FROM LOOSE STATEMENT IN PENSION RECORDS:

Personally before me comes Thomas Riggins known to me
to be a reputable citizen of said county who being duly
sworn says on oath that he knows of his own knowledge
that Mrs. Rebecca James was the widow of R.T. James,
deceased. That he was present at their marriage on the
13th day of Dec 1849.
